6 Secrets To A Perfectly Organized Closet

Closet Organization Tips

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a perfectly organized closet but aren’t sure where to start, keep reading. Style expert Lindsay Albanese is the owner of a swoon-worthy closet and knows a thing or two about organization tips and tricks. Recently, California Closets came in and gave Lindsay’s space a closet makeover, but you don’t need a custom-built closet to utilize her storage and organization solutions.

Here are Lindsay Albanese’s 6 tips to achieving a perfectly organized closet:

 1. Functional Furniture

It’s so important, especially with smaller spaces, for your furniture to do double duty. Looking at it, you would never know that this ottoman was filled with so many treasures! I got this one at HomeGoods, and I was surprised at how many options I came across, proving that furniture with storage is not hard to find!

2. Drawer Dividers

Drawer dividers

I’ve used these for years. Drawer dividers section out big drawers to create 3 mini drawers in one. They’re ideal for organizing smaller pieces, like socks, intimates, sports bras…anything!

3. Trays

Use trays for deep shelves

For deep shelving spaces or for placing items on top of shelves, I always like to use trays to create a pseudo-drawer. That way, when you need something you can pull out the entire tray with everything organized in it, without having to rummage through the entire space. It’s also ideal for high, hard to reach shelves!

For deep cubbyholes or shelving spaces, you can organize the tray and put it in front, and then in the back you can have things lined up as well. Decorative trays can get expensive, so I always like to buy them at discount retailers.

4. Roll, Don’t Fold

Closet Organization Roll Don't FoldMichelle Kyle Photography

Roll your clothes instead of folding them.

I always roll my clothes because you can see more of what you have at a birds-eye view, as opposed to looking at a stack of everything folded on top of each other. Rolling also minimizes wrinkling.

5. Command Hooks

Hang accessories with command hooks.

I totally got sucked into that ‘Command hook’ commercial with MC Hammer that’s circulating on TV right now. Then I thought, these sticky hooks will be perfect to hang in the back of my closet to give me extra hanging space that no one can see. I also use them for necklaces, belts, and handbags.

6. Waterfall Hangers

Save valuable closet space with waterfall hangers.

I think many of us can relate to the issue of having too much stuff and not enough space! This is a little styling trick we used in the wardrobe department on different shows and productions I’ve styled for. You basically link your skirt hangers vertically so you minimize space on the closet rail.

All American! See Team USA’s closing ceremony look for the 2018 Winter Olympics

The countdown to the Winter Olympics has begun!

With just 100 days to go until the games kick off in Pyeongchang, South Korea, on Feb. 9, the United States Olympic Committee and Polo Ralph Lauren unveiled the official uniforms that Team USA will wear at the closing ceremony.

A group of Olympians, including snowboarding gold medalist Jamie Anderson, stopped by the TODAY Show to reveal the ensemble.

True to Polo Ralph Lauren’s signature style, the closing ceremony uniform is bold, preppy and all American, combining “traditional artisanal design references with modern fabrications in a patriotic spirit of red, white, and blue,” according to a press release.

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams will sport white water-repellent down jackets, emblazoned with the iconic Polo Ralph Lauren horse symbol, the U.S. Olympic Team logo and an American flag on the sleeve, shown off here by freestyle skiing silver medalist Gus Kenworthy.

The patriotic ensemble also includes a vintage-inspired sweater in red, white and blue color blocking, accessorized with an American flag-printed bandana. The uniform also features double-fleece pants with a thick red stripe down the side.

For extra warmth, the ensemble includes woolen mittens and a matching hat, both decorated in a wintry red, white and blue pattern. Finally, Team USA will wear matching suede mountaineering boots with red laces, modeled here by Olympian Maia Shibutani.

This is the sixth time Polo Ralph Lauren has been an official outfitter for the U.S. team, and they have clearly perfected the sporty yet put-together look the closing ceremony requires. Members of Team USA will definitely be very cozy — and stylish — as they walk in the final parade!

For all us non-Olympians, the Team USA Collection will be available starting in December at select Ralph Lauren and Polo Ralph Lauren stores, as well as online.

The Newest Bags and Accessories From Bottega Venetta’s Cruise 2018 Collection

Bottega Veneta’s Piazza Bag is the Italian house’s newest bag designed to become a classic.

The presentation of cruise collection have recently become more and more important for fashion houses especially for labels falling under the luxury segment. Initially, the concept of a cruise collection was to present a wardrobe to suit the transitioning between seasons. Use of the term “cruise” was prefer because most affluent patrons of luxury houses go on sojourns at sea just after summer before fall or to escape the bitter winter.

Because pieces from a cruise collection are generally more versatile, consumers are more inclined to invest good money on these pieces. Coats, for instance, are neither too heavy nor light making them practical fashion choices for use regardless of season. Even accessories from cruise collections have become perceived as clever style investments mostly because designs suit more than one fashion season. The more intimate fashion presentations for cruise pieces also create the perception that items from this range are more exclusive as opposed to the highly publicized or hyped pieces from a Fall/Winter or Sprint/Summer collection.

Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta is one such brand that has consistently presented impressive cruise collections year after year. The maison’s distinct take on toned down elegance and luxury appeals to a sensibility that values functional design and eye for detail.

For 2018, its creative director Tomas Maier infuses elements from fields of flora onto essentially classic pieces. Botanical prints were applied onto apparel and trademark leather accessories that emphasized a youthful and adventurous mood. “It’s a very tricky process since there are so many colors of shading within each flower… Normally, you have two to eight, but these prints contain over 30,” said the designer. Wildflowers, field grass and butterflies embellished a trademark Knot clutch in snakeskin, a pair of Mary Janes and boots. These prints were inspired by the works of 15th century German painter Albretch Durer. Floral appliques on Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato bags and loafers also highlighted an affinity for all things bright and feminine this season.

The Cruise collection for 2018 also presented the brand’s new iconic bag. Taking reference from everyday life in the ancient Roman republic, this leather accessory takes the shape of the ‘piazza,’ which is a central area in local towns where activities often take place. In true Bottega Veneta form, French calf and Nappa leather were cut and molded into a shape that is both distinct but essentially functional. At the Bottega Veneta design studio, it is never enough that a piece is beautiful. It must always serve a purpose or as Maier insists, “propose a solution.”

Interiors of the bag are likewise crafted with high regard for quality, functionality and impeccable detailing as seen in well thought of compartments and hand stitching.

Why the comfy days of athleisure could already be over

It’s a trend that’s rocked the fashion world for years but it looks like ‘athleisure’ has finally become overstretched.

So much so, that two stock analysts told Business of Fashion that they have reduced their expectations for leading yoga-wear brand Lululemon over fears that consumers are rapidly losing interest in the category.

A brand that helped popularise ‘athleisure’ over the past decade, Lululemon has inspired women to take their stretchy leggings out of the gym and into everyday life but they’re facing relentless competition.

It seems like everyone has their own ‘athleisure’ line nowadays, heck even Beyonce has one, and Lululemon are drowning in this ocean of less-expensive gym-wear.

Accordingly, the brand has seen a 30 per cent drop in its stock and been left trading at 23 times expected earnings compared to its five-year average of 29, according to Thomson Reuters Datastream.

One expert claims that this comes in light of consumers shifting away from ‘athleisure’ and toward denim.

Mizuho Securities analyst Betty Chen, who recently cut her price target for Lululemon to $60 from $68, said women are favouring ripped and distressed jeans as well as “retro” athletic styles from competitors like Adidas and Puma.

“We see shoppers buying it and wearing it. You can also see a lot of it online through bloggers, and a lot of the young celebrities are wearing it,” Chen said.

Even on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Black Friday, Lululemon struggled seeing healthy traffic but weak customer spending.

While this certainly isn’t going to put an immediate end to women wearing leggings outside the gym it demonstrates that ‘athleisure’ is lacking the fashion component that today’s consumer is seeking.

Why Nike trainers are the most counterfeited product in the world

nike trainers white

The battle to shut down trainer counterfeiting operations is becoming harder and harder as illicit traders move online.

Nike shoes are the most counterfeited item in the world – thanks to the distinctive swoosh and a demand from young people for expensive products on the cheap.

In the past, it was easier to tackle because street traders could be spotted and arrested.

But now there’s a booming, lucrative online marketplace for the trainers, which is increasingly difficult to shut down.

One teenage sneaker fan told The Independent: “I buy counterfeit trainers because the retail price on shoes is too high. For the money you pay, the quality is almost identical to authentic shoes.”

Ariele Elia, assistant curator at The Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, told Complex: “The internet completely changed everything. People don’t actually buy [a counterfeit item] physically in the store, but they’ll probably buy it online and have it shipped to their house.”

Big cargo freights are also much easier for customs authorities to catch at the border than individual packages sent through the postal service – especially a small, relatively light shoebox.

Illicit online retailers are also smart at throwing authorities off their trail by sending items through roundabout routes.

It’s not just websites; counterfeiters use a range of platforms including WhatsApp to push their illegal wares – which is particularly appealing to young trainer fans.

Nike finally launches its first plus-size range

In an overdue but nonetheless welcome move, Nike has launched its fist ever plus size range of sportswear.

The world of fitness, up until this point, has somewhat lagged behind when it comes to inclusivity but with a collection specifically designed for what Nike deem ‘curved athletes’, that looks set to change.

If you’re not a size small, chances are your gym-kit has comprised of a tatty oversized tee and cheap leggings because, for some reason, the majority of fitness brands think only slim people workout.

Thankfully, Nike is shunning this stereotype with a collection that celebrates and advocates all athletes, no matter their size.

In a statement, the sportswear brand said, “‘In today’s world, sport is no longer something that she does, it’s who she is. The days where we have to add ‘female’ before ‘athlete’ are over.

Nike are responding to a changing market (Nike)

“She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes’ diversity, from ethnicity to body shape.”

Encompassing everything from t-shirts, running tights, high-tech hoodies and training shorts sizes range from an impressive Xl up to 3XL and 38E in sports bras.

But, Nike isn’t just sizing up their existing products. It’s actually adapting the science behind each piece to suit a plus size body.
